Motor vehicle crashes happen every day in California. Driver negligence, especially driving under the influence of alcohol, often contributes to accidents with injuries or fatalities. When someone chooses to drive while intoxicated, they put themselves and everyone else on the road in danger. Sadly, a recent accident led to two fatalities and the arrest of an elementary school principal.

Details of the accident

The crash happened on a recent Sunday evening in Reedley. According to the California Highway Patrol, an SUV was traveling north on Road 56 and Avenue 430. A pickup truck crossed the center line, crashing head-on into the SUV.

The impact of the collision caused fatal injuries to two of the occupants in the SUV, a mother and her daughter. The other two occupants were seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The pickup driver, a 43-year-old principal from a school in Dinuba was arrested for driving under the influence. He now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.

Where can families turn for help?

Losing a loved one in a motor vehicle accident when an intoxicated driver is involved can be a very traumatic experience. The family is likely to feel anger toward the driver at fault and want justice for their lost loved one. Families should be aware that they have the right to file a civil lawsuit against a negligent driver when a loved one dies due to injuries suffered in the accident. California families who have lost a loved one can speak with a personal injury attorney to see what their options are.
