Crash on interstate kills 5, leaves 1 with severe injuries

There are numerous types of factors that can increase the severity of a collision, one of which may involve the speed vehicles are traveling at the time of impact. This may be just one reason why crashes that occur on interstates may run a much greater risk of proving disastrous. Reports indicate that five individuals were killed and one person was airlifted to a hospital with severe injuries following a head-on car accident on an interstate in California.

Interstate collision

The crash reportedly occurred on a recent Saturday when for reasons that remain unclear, the driver of a northbound car suddenly lost control and veered across the median on the interstate. Authorities say the car proceeded to travel into oncoming lanes of traffic and crash head-on into a pickup truck. Reports indicate that all four occupants of the car were ejected from within in the process, each of whom was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck also suffered fatal harm and died at the scene of the crash, while a passenger in the truck was airlifted to a nearby medical facility with severe injuries. While an investigation into the crash has been initiated, no further information was provided as to what might have caused the driver to veer into oncoming lanes. Incidents involving such behavior could leave oncoming drivers with no time to react and the results of such collisions can prove disastrous in nature.

Preparing to pursue restitution

It can be difficult to grasp how daunting it can be to suffer severe injuries or lose someone close in a car accident until the unthinkable takes place. Victims or surviving family members who encounter such hardships due to the actions of another party may also be uncertain of their options and the best course of action to take to seek restitution accordingly. Following the collision, a person may consider speaking with an attorney in California for advice on his or her available options for legal recourse and assistance in preparing to seek accountability and compensation through the civil justice system.
