When stacking materials on a construction project site, taking the proper measures to secure these items may be integral to mitigating a variety of safety risks. While companies in California may use items such as chains to hold materials in place, heavy objects could place significant strain on restraints and should a chain break loose, the results could prove dire. Two workers reportedly suffered severe injuries during a recent construction accident after they were hit by falling objects that had broken through a chain.

Severe injuries

According to reports, the incident took place as workers were digging a trench in preparation for the installation of utility lines at a local high school. Officials advised that they were working near a stack of equipment that was being held together by a chain when the chain suddenly snapped. This reportedly caused the items to fall into the trench area and hit two workers.

Officials advised that both workers suffered injuries in the process, one of whom was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Incidents involving falling objects continue to affect the health and well-being of many workers. When companies fail to take the necessary measures to protect against such an outcome, those who suffer severe harm in the process may find the outcome of their situations challenging to accept.

Seeking advice on one’s options

While construction accidents can occur under various situations, a lack of sufficient safety measures may only increase the risks of a hazardous situation. Individuals in California who suffer severe or permanent harm due to the presence of negligence might choose to speak with an attorney for guidance on their available options for legal recourse. An attorney can examine every aspect of the accident, help address a client’s injuries and financial needs, and work toward creating a strategy with which to seek the full amount of compensation to which he or she is entitled to receive.
