When construction projects require workers to perform tasks near lanes of traffic, clearly marking the area with signs may prove integral to safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved. Unfortunately, this might not always be enough to prevent all incidents entirely, especially if drivers in California fail to adhere to notifications of lane closures. Two workers suffered serious injuries after they were hit by a car during a recent construction accident in another state.

The incident reportedly took place on a recent Sunday morning as two workers were setting up a sign to help direct traffic at the site of a roadside construction project. Authorities advised that the driver of an eastbound car failed to adhere to signs of an upcoming lane closure and crossed into the project site. The car proceeded to crash into the sign and hit the two workers soon thereafter.

Reports indicate that both workers suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident and were rushed to the hospital for medical care. The driver of the car reportedly left the scene on foot and authorities say they are still working to locate this individual. They also indicated that this person will face numerous charges in relation to the incident pending the completion of their investigation.
