On the night of October 1, 2017, a gunman perpetrated the worst mass shooting in modern American history. As country music star Jason Aldean performed at the Route 91 Harvest music festival, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock smashed two windows on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel and began to fire into the crowd of 22,000. Hundreds of rifle rounds penetrated the crowd, leaving 58 concertgoers dead and 546 injured. About an hour after the final round was fired, police found Paddock dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His motives are yet unknown.
