We are all lucky to live in one of the most beautiful and sought-after cities in the world. Millions of people flock here ever year to either find fame and fortune or just get a glimpse of it. We live in a perennial good weather and never too far from the beach. However, the one thing we are not blessed with is safe roads. Indeed, we have some of the highest trafficked, and as a result, dangerous roads in the country. This was exemplified recently by a fatal pedestrian accident in south Los Angeles, California.
The fatal motor vehicle accident
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the accident occurred around noon on Wednesday, Feb. 24. The car accident was actually part of two accidents. The first occurred in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood, at the intersection of Main Street and 88th Place, where a truck collided with a sedan, but fled the scene of that accident. The truck continued west through the intersection where they struck the pedestrian, then careened into a parked sedan.
After the fatal accident
According to eye witnesses and video of the scene, at least three individuals fled the truck after the fatal motor vehicle accident. Witnesses attempted to chase and apprehend them, but they were unable to catch anyone. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. However, the driver and passengers of the sedan struck in the intersection were not injured, and the parked sedan was unoccupied.
LAPD is still looking for additional witnesses and anyone that may be able to identify the driver or passengers. The truck is described as an older Ford Ranger. Two of the people that fled were identified as males, one wearing jeans and a yellow shirt, carrying a DeWalt toolbox. The other man was described as wearing a green vest. Anyone with information or video footage is encouraged to contact the LAPD at 310-773-5509. Alternatively, anonymous tips can also be submitted online at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
After fatal car accidents
For anyone in Los Angeles, California, that has a family member who died in a fatal car accident, contact an attorney immediately. Of course, the police will do an investigation and attempt to arrest those individuals that caused the fatality, but to receive compensation and get civil justice, one must go through wrongful death litigation. This is especially true when the negligent driver is not charged.
