Christa Ramey comments in MarketWatch op-ed on social media laws needed following U.S. Capitol insurrection

In a MarketWatch opinion piece by Therese Poletti titled “After Capitol insurrection and fallout, it is time for new laws for social media,” it grapples with how the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 has led to the largest reckoning in the history of the internet. Content moderation by Big Tech has been mostly hands off, resulting in dangerous groups spreading misinformation, attracting new conspirators and planing attacks.

“I think people appreciate that the wild wild west is not working,” said Christa Ramey. “If these companies are held responsible, their content will change.” But therein lies the problem.
